Last week the Legislature returned to finish long awaited table game legislation. Allowing table games was actually part of funding for this year’s budget agreed upon in October, with the expansion expected to raise $250 million. However, since October legislators and the Governor were not able to agree on the final plan on how to allow table games in the Commonwealth. Governor Rendell said without that money, he was prepared to furlough nearly 1,000 state workers while making what he described as steep cuts to an array of state programs. With the enactment of the legislation, a 90-day period was also triggered for Category 3 applicants to submit the necessary materials to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. The 90-day window to apply for the remaining category three license begins Thursday, with another resort casino license scheduled to become available in 2017. The legislature is schedule to return in late January and February begins the budget process. ![]() |
