The Institute for Economic Development (IED), highlighted in the spring edition of Business Connections is pleased to share the following update on its initiatives since January 2010 with the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce Membership:

• The IED continues to promote the positive activities within the City of Chester and among its members in three major ways:
1) through the News link of its website at www.chesteryes.com;
2) through the “Chester Today Show” available on the IED website; previous shows are also aired on COMCAST Channels 21 and 190 in Delaware County periodically in the evenings; and
3) through targeted print publications, most recently in November 2009 in Main Line Today and Delaware Today magazines. In 2010 – 2011, look to follow the IED on Facebook and in various other media throughout Delaware County and the Greater Philadelphia region.

• In cooperation with the City of Chester, Delaware County Council and PennDOT, several IED member companies and organizations have volunteered to help the city improve the visual appearance of its major gateways, most of which are located along Interstate 95. In Fall 2010, and 2-4 times each year thereafter, volunteers from IED companies will perform litter pick up in the following locations: exit 3 (Highland Avenue) – Keystone Sports and Entertainment, LLC (Philadelphia Union); exit 5 (Kerlin Street) – Crozer Keystone Health System; exit 6 (Edgmont Avenue) – Widener University/Harrah’s Chester Casino & Racetrack; Route 352 (within Chester City Limits to 14th & Edgmont) – TD Bank; Providence Avenue (within Chester City Limits to campus) – Widener University; Chestnut Street/Morton Avenue area to include Route 291 from Eddystone – Harrah’s Chester Casino & Racetrack; Route 291 within City of Chester (from Trainer) – Chester Water Authority.

• To promote and foster neighborhood stabilization and market rate housing, the IED continues to work with the City of Chester in promoting its Homebuyer’s Assistance Program (also known as the “Walk to Work” program depending upon the employer and areas of coverage offered). Since mid-2008 approximately (10) employees of Widener University and Crozer-Chester Medical Center have received $5,000 each toward the cost of a home in Chester. The Chester Water Authority has also implemented the program, and plans call for three additional IED member companies to implement the program in 2010-2011. The City of Chester and the IED believe strongly that stable and eco-friendly communities benefit all citizens and serve as part of the economic revitalization strategy on which we work together.
